We share our sustainability progress in our annual ESG reports, including information about environmental management, community initiatives, governance practices and our sustainability performance.

Our material topics inform our sustainability strategy and reporting. With guidance from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), we conducted our first materiality assessment in FY23, mapping our stakeholders and identifying and prioritising our most important material issues. These topics are addressed in our ESG Report.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Our People are our priority. We want everyone to go home safely each day and to contribute to a culture that consistently values and demonstrates the highest standards of health and safety in the workplace.

In addition to our overarching Health and Safety Policy and WHS Management System, we have strengthened our audit and assurance programs, prioritised safety training, risk and hazard assessment, incident investigation and promote active engagement by all employees and contractors. Our Mental Health Wellbeing Policy guides best practice, supported by a weekly medical clinic, social club and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Diversity & Equal Opportunity

We consider workplace diversity to include employees and contractors across gender, age, ethnicity and cultural characteristics.

We believe that a more diverse workplace provides increased access to a broader talent pool of high-quality employees, improves employee retention and enables Capricorn to draw on different insights and perspectives.

Capricornโ€™s projects are situated on the lands of the Nyiyaparli, Badimia and Ngarlawangga people. We consider the relationships with our Traditional Owners to be of vital importance and respect their connection to country. We will always seek to preserve and protect their cultural heritage.

Our engagement with our Traditional Owners includes regular consultation, cultural heritage surveys and cultural awareness training for our team.

We are committed to working closely with local communities to understand their needs and priorities. We believe that positive collaboration with our stakeholders is critical to the success of our projects and is the foundation of our social license to operate.

We also believe in giving back to the places that support us.

Meekatharra Lions Park

With Karlawinda Gold Project being in the Meekatharra Shire, we welcomed the opportunity to further contribute to the local community by sponsoring this project.

Environmental Management

Careful environmental stewardship of our projects in the Pilbara and Murchison is a priority for Capricorn Metals. We recognise that our operations can have a significant impact on the natural environment. As a result, we have put in place measures to avoid and address any potential harm to vegetation and fauna within our tenement areas.

Under our Environmental Management System, we identify and manage any biodiversity or environmental impacts, risks or compliance issues. We seek to continuously improve our procedures by applying the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.

Rehabilitation

We conduct regular topsoil rehabilitation inspections to assess changes in pioneer and succession vegetation species at various stockpile points and to check soil condition.

Water Management

Water is a scarce and precious resource in the areas where our projects are located. We monitor and manage our water use to minimise any impact from our operations and to identify opportunities for efficiencies. Water is reused for dust suppression purposes. We do not use surface water in our operations.

Climate Change & Emissions

We recognise the impact of the mining sector on our warming climate, the associated risks for our business and the importance of actively managing our emissions. Climate is considered as part of the sustainability and environmental risks addressed by our Risk Management Framework, available on our website. We disclose our emissions in our annual ESG Report and are seeking to better understand our climate-related risks and opportunities through the guidance of the new Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS).

Capricorn recognises that a strong governance framework is grounded in high standards of accountability and transparency. We have a suite of governance policies that sets out our approach to governance and business integrity. Our Corporate Code of Conduct, Whistleblower Policy and Anti-Bribery & Corruption Policy underpins our values and position on ethical business. Our Modern Slavery Statement outlines the principles and risks with respect to our business and supply chain.
